On-Premise ERP
On-premise ERP runs on servers in the company's own data centre or with a local hosting partner, and the company itself stays responsible for operations and updates.
On-Premise ERP: Not to be confused with
On-premise is NOT synonymous with outdated technology. Current ERP versions can be run on-premise too. The difference concerns where the system runs and who is responsible for the infrastructure, not the feature set of the software.
With on-premise deployment, the company installs the ERP on its own or rented hardware and takes on responsibility itself for backups, security updates and capacity planning (Source 1). That requires in-house IT expertise or a suitable partner, but in return gives full control over data location and the depth of customisation.
Many vendors active in Switzerland offer both deployment models in parallel, for example SAP S/4HANA or Dynamics 365 Business Central. The choice is usually driven by industry and compliance requirements, see the industry pages.
