BDE and MDE capture feedback from production and machines, such as run times, quantities and downtime reasons, and feed it back into the ERP.
Shop Floor Data Collection (BDE/MDE): Not to be confused with
BDE and MDE are NOT the same: BDE captures operational events in general, such as order progress and labour time, usually through manual feedback. MDE captures data directly from machines and equipment, often automated via machine interfaces. In practice, both are frequently combined and run as one system.
Shop floor data collection (BDE) gathers metrics from ongoing operations, such as order progress and labour and machine time (Source 1). Machine data collection (MDE) adds feedback directly from machine controllers, such as run times, unit counts and downtime reasons (Source 2). Without timely feedback into the ERP, stock levels and capacity utilisation stop matching what is actually happening on the shop floor.
